Yesterday, a delegation from the European Union (EU) Parliament met with Bangladesh’s Chief Election Commissioner, A. M. M. Nasir Uddin, to review the country’s preparations for the forthcoming national elections. The meeting came in the lead-up to the general election scheduled for 12 February 2026, during which the Election Commission provided a detailed briefing on its comprehensive preparatory measures.
The EU delegation also conducted an on-site inspection of the Election Commission’s central office, assessing the transparency, operational efficiency, and overall readiness of the electoral process. Addressing the visiting delegation, Chief Election Commissioner Nasir Uddin emphasised the Commission’s commitment to upholding a free, fair, and impartial electoral process. He stated, “Ensuring the integrity and neutrality of the election process is our highest priority. Our aim is to enable citizens to cast their votes with full confidence. We are fully prepared to facilitate observers and provide necessary support at every stage.”
He further highlighted that each polling station would be equipped with adequate resources, trained personnel, and robust security arrangements. To safeguard voters and staff, both police and armed forces have been deployed across the country.
Following the meeting, the EU delegation conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the electoral process and its environment. They commended the Election Commission for its meticulous preparation and effective security measures, noting a high degree of professionalism and organisational readiness observed at multiple levels during their visit.
