Fajlur Rahman Warns of “Political Battle” if Jamaat Wins in Kishoreganj

In a dramatic warning to voters in Kishoreganj-4, BNP candidate and freedom fighter Fajlur Rahman has declared that supporting Jamaat-e-Islami would lead to his “dead body” being left for them. The statement came during a workers’ conference held on Friday (28 November) at Mriga Union, Itna Upazila, organised by the BNP, its affiliates, and allied organisations.

Rahman, who fought in Bangladesh’s Liberation War, framed his comments within the larger struggle to defend the nation’s independence. “I am one of those who fought for our freedom. When silence prevails and my party remains quiet, I have raised my voice at great personal risk. These collaborators’ children must know: the Liberation War is alive, and any attempt to destroy it will trigger another political battle,” he said.

The veteran politician also addressed repeated verbal attacks he has faced, noting the frustration of being misrepresented by Jamaat supporters who deny or distort historical facts about the 1971 war. He called out those who labelled him “Foja Pagla,” urging supporters not to vote for the freedom-fighting adversaries.

“Those who oppose the Liberation War and freedom have given me this insulting title. If they are elected, it will be at the cost of my life,” Rahman warned, prompting an emphatic rejection from the audience.

The gathering was attended by his wife, Advocate Umme Kulsum Rekha, Aminul Islam Ratan, General Secretary of the Kishoreganj District Bar Association, and several prominent BNP leaders from Itna Upazila. Rahman’s comments underscore the intensity of political divisions in the run-up to the election and highlight the emotional resonance of Bangladesh’s Liberation War in current political discourse.
