Fake DB Officers Try to Kidnap Trishal Leader

In a shocking incident in Trishal, Mymensingh, a former leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra Dal was nearly abducted by individuals impersonating Detective Branch (DB) officers. The victim, Resaul Karim, 32, was handcuffed by the assailants before local residents intervened, forcing the perpetrators to flee. The handcuffs were later removed by the Fire Service. The episode occurred on Wednesday night at around 10 PM in the Bir Rampur area.

According to police and eyewitnesses, Resaul Karim, the recently retired president of the Rampur Union Chhatra Dal, was returning home from Gofakuri Market when five men posing as DB officials blocked his path. Two of the men began to assault him and attempted to drag him towards a secluded field. Suspecting foul play, Karim raised an alarm, which attracted nearby residents. Realising that their ruse had been exposed, the impersonators abandoned the attempt and fled the scene in a CNG-operated auto-rickshaw.

Following the incident, Karim’s elder brother contacted the local DB office and Trishal police, who confirmed that no official DB team had been on duty at that time. Attempts by the police to remove the handcuffs proved unsuccessful, prompting the Fire Service to intervene and cut them off. Resaul Karim was subsequently admitted to Trishal Upazila Health Complex for treatment of his injuries.

Speaking on the matter, Karim’s brother Enamul Karim said, “We were told that DB officers had detained my brother. We demanded to know what crime he had committed, why he was being beaten, and whether there was a warrant. When they failed to answer, they fled the scene.”

The victim himself stated, “I had previously participated in a protest on 28 November demanding a change in BNP’s nomination for the Trishal constituency, wearing symbolic shrouds. This may have provoked the attack against me.”

Trishal Police Officer-in-Charge Firoz Hossain clarified, “This attack was the result of a personal grudge. The group posing as DB officers fled before the police arrived. The handcuffs used were old police equipment, now secured by our department. We have advised the family to file a formal complaint, after which legal action will be taken.”
