Famed Singer Now Stars in Three Films

British pop sensation Charlie XCX, widely recognised for her chart-topping music career, has now stepped firmly into the world of cinema. At the ongoing Sundance Film Festival, the artist appeared not as a singer but as a fully-fledged actress, premiering three films: The Moment, I Want Your Sex, and The Gallerist. With these premieres, she begins the new year with a bold transition from pop icon to multifaceted performer.

On Saturday night, Charlie attended the premieres of two of these films. The first, I Want Your Sex, features her alongside acclaimed actors Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman. The second, The Moment, is a documentary-style film exploring her controversial CRASH / BRAT album and international tour, offering a candid glimpse into her life on the road.

During the post-screening Q&A session, Charlie explained her artistic evolution:

“I’m at a point now where I want the ‘Brat’ era to be over and to explore new paths. It’s not just about loving the music; as artists, we want to challenge ourselves, work across different mediums, and enjoy new experiences.”

In The Moment, Charlie plays a version of herself, though the film incorporates several narrative elements to dramatise her experiences. Viewers witness the pressures of global fame following the success of her album, observing how she navigates public scrutiny while staying creatively active. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is “engaging and thoroughly enjoyable.” Reflecting on her performance, Charlie noted:

“I’m not exactly like the Charlie you see on screen, nor am I completely different. Perhaps my managers know the truth. I can only say I’m a restless artist.”

Charlie’s cinematic journey is far from limited to these three films. She is also set to star in at least four upcoming projects, including A Tree Is Blue, directed by Dakota Johnson, and another Arkety Studios production alongside Natalie Portman and Gina Ortega.

Reflecting on her acting career, Charlie added:

“I’ve been in the entertainment industry since I was sixteen, meeting countless people along the way. All of these experiences have informed my performances on screen; I’ve never needed to force anything—it comes naturally.”

With three film premieres already under her belt and several high-profile projects forthcoming, Charlie XCX is proving she is not merely a music sensation but a versatile talent equally capable of commanding the silver screen.
