In a tragic escalation of a longstanding family dispute, a 60-year-old man, Abul Kalam, was fatally stabbed by his cousin in the Sohagi Union of Ishwarganj Upazila, Mymensingh. The incident occurred on Tuesday night (24 March) in the village of Momrojpur.
According to local sources and police reports, Abul Kalam, the son of the late Shafiquddin, was returning home from Sohagi Bazar when he encountered his cousin, Abul Kashem, in the Kalpar area. What began as a verbal argument quickly turned violent, with Kashem reportedly stabbing Kalam in the chest.
Residents rushed to the scene after hearing Kalam’s screams and immediately transported him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Despite emergency medical intervention, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The motive behind the attack appears to be a pre-existing dispute over land between the two cousins. Neighbours stated that tensions had been simmering for some time, with both parties involved in repeated arguments over property boundaries.
Ishwarganj police have confirmed the incident. OC Robiul Azam stated, “This is a deeply regrettable event. We are in the process of taking legal action against the accused and gathering further evidence.” The suspect, Abul Kashem, is reportedly in police custody pending investigation.
