Farmer’s mysterious death in Netrakona

Netrokona – A quiet village in Netrokona has been rocked by a horrifying murder after 58-year-old farmer Helal Uddin was found brutally killed in his own bedroom. Discovered by his wife early on Sunday morning, Helal had been bound by hands and feet and slashed in a shocking act of violence.

Police recovered the body from the tin-roofed home in Nariapara, Kalijara Gabragati Union, around noon. Helal’s wife, Bedena Akter, has been taken into custody for questioning. Helal, son of the late Ashrab Ali, was a lifelong resident and a respected farmer in the area.

Neighbours and family members revealed that Helal married Bedena nearly 20 years ago and the couple had two children. The 18-year-old son studies at a madrasa, while their three-year-old daughter shares a room with Bedena. The night before the murder, Helal went to sleep after dinner, unaware of the tragedy that awaited him.

Bedena recounted the horror of discovering her husband’s body at 4:15 a.m., saying, “I went to the toilet, and upon returning, I saw his pillow on the floor. I switched on the torch and saw him bloodied and bound. I screamed and fainted.”

Helal’s brothers are struggling to comprehend the murder. Jalal Uddin said, “We do not know why anyone would commit such a crime. My brother was gentle and had no disputes with anyone. We request justice and a thorough investigation.”

Another brother, Nazim, stated, “After our eldest brother’s natural death, we went to bed late. Helal went to sleep, and in the morning, we learned of his murder. We demand answers.”

Officer-in-Charge of Netrokona Model Police Station, Md. Al Mamun Sarkar, confirmed that Bedena Akter is in police custody, and the body has been sent to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Superintendent of Police Md. Tarikul Islam added that CID and PBI teams from Mymensingh are investigating the case and are determined to solve the mystery quickly.

The murder has left the village in grief and fear, highlighting the fragility of safety even in small, close-knit communities. Local authorities have assured the public of a swift resolution to the case.
