Fatal Home Invasion and Child Murder Stun Rural Communities

The tranquil rural landscapes of Rajshahi and Patuakhali have been shattered by a pair of harrowing homicides, both of which appear to be the result of calculated and cold-blooded planning. In the early hours of Sunday, a young father was assassinated within his residence in Bagha, while in a separate atrocity in Rangabali, the body of an eleven-year-old schoolgirl was discovered stuffed inside a sack following her disappearance two days prior.

The Targeted Execution in Bagha

The first incident occurred at approximately 1:15 am in the village of Korali Naoshara, Rajshahi. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Sohel Rana, was at home with his family when a group of armed miscreants descended upon the property. According to the victim’s brother, Sentu, the attackers initially attempted to lure Sohel outside by calling his name. When he remained inside, the assailants cut through the corrugated iron perimeter of the dwelling and discharged several rounds.

Sohel was struck in the chest and ribcage. In the ensuing chaos, his wife, Swadhina Begum, was injured as she attempted to intervene, and both she and their daughter were reportedly assaulted by the intruders. Although the family managed to transport Sohel to the Upazila Health Complex, Dr Humayra Jerin pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Local intelligence suggests this killing is a grim continuation of a bloody feud involving the notorious ‘Kakon Bahini’—a local gang. This group was allegedly involved in a triple homicide on the Padma riverbanks last October over a dispute concerning agricultural resources. Inspector Suprobhat Mandal confirmed that the body has been moved to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for a forensic post-mortem.

A Child’s Life Cut Short in Rangabali

While the police in Rajshahi were processing the scene of the shooting, a second tragedy was unfolding in Patuakhali. The search for Ayesha Moni, a fifth-grade student who had been missing since Friday, ended in the most grisly fashion. Her lifeless body was found on Sunday morning, concealed within a plastic sack on the kitchen veranda of her family home in Majhneta village.

Ayesha’s father, a day labourer named Babul Payada, is left to grieve alongside his three other children, while the girl’s mother remains abroad as a migrant worker in Saudi Arabia. The local Officer-in-Charge stated that the child had been strangled, characterising the act as a “planned murder.”
