A tragic road traffic accident in the Gopalganj Sadar sub-district has resulted in the death of a young man and left another individual with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, 14 May 2026, on the Gopalganj-Tekerhat regional highway in the Bherarbazar vicinity. The deceased has been identified as Mridul Sheikh, aged 32, a resident of Khatiagarh Uttarpara village within the Gopalganj Sadar sub-district and the son of Phelan Sheikh.
The collision has once again highlighted the ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the regulation of heavy goods vehicles on regional thoroughfares. According to official reports, the victim was commuting via a traditional cycle-rickshaw when the fatal encounter took place.

According to a statement provided by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, Mr Md. Anisur Rahman, the events unfolded as Mridul Sheikh was travelling from Ulpur towards Gopalganj town. As the rickshaw reached the Bherarbazar area, a heavy goods vehicle, described as a high-speed truck, struck the non-motorised vehicle from behind.
The force of the impact was substantial, causing the passenger, Mridul Sheikh, to be violently ejected from the rickshaw onto the asphalt. Witnesses at the scene reported that the victim sustained catastrophic injuries upon impact. The rickshaw puller, identified as Samiul Mollah, was also severely injured during the collision, as the light vehicle was largely demolished by the larger commercial transport unit.
Emergency Response and Medical Care
Following the collision, local residents and bystanders immediately initiated a rescue operation. Both victims were transported with urgency to the Gopalganj Medical College Hospital. Upon arrival at the emergency department, the attending medical officers conducted an assessment of Mridul Sheikh; however, he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was subsequently moved to the hospital mortuary for the completion of necessary legal and post-mortem formalities.
The rickshaw puller, Samiul Mollah, remains in a critical condition. Hospital sources indicate that he is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment for multiple trauma injuries sustained during the crash.
