In Patharghata Upazila of Barguna, a 15-year-old girl has accused her own father of sexual assault, leading to his arrest. According to police sources, the girl’s mother lodged a formal complaint at Patharghata Police Station on Tuesday evening. Subsequently, the victim herself visited the police station to submit a written statement, detailing the alleged abuse perpetrated by her father.
The girl is reported to be a student at a local secondary school. According to the complaint, she was allegedly subjected to sexual assault on two separate occasions at her home in January this year. It has also been reported that, following the assaults, the girl was given contraceptive medication.
A local community leader, speaking to First Alo, claimed, “We had heard of a previous allegation against the accused involving another woman in the neighbourhood. At that time, the matter was reportedly settled locally, allegedly through financial compensation.”
The Officer-in-Charge of Patharghata Police Station, Mr. Mong Chenla, confirmed that preliminary investigations have substantiated the claims. He stated, “Given the highly sensitive nature of this case, the investigation is being conducted with utmost care. The accused will be presented before the court today, and the minor victim will also be brought to court under supervision for further proceedings.”
