In a shocking incident in Valuka, Mymensingh, Dipu Chandra Das, a factory worker, was brutally beaten to death, sparking widespread grief and outrage. Dipu’s father, Ravidas Das, has alleged that his son fell victim to a deliberate conspiracy, stating, “My son was the target of a plot. Perhaps someone at the factory sought revenge.” The incident occurred at Dipu’s workplace, Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Limited, located in Jamirdia Dubaliyapara, Hobirbari Union, Valuka, where he worked in the linking section.
According to reports, on Thursday night, Dipu allegedly made controversial remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) while speaking with a colleague. The comments quickly spread within the local community, triggering anger among fellow workers and residents. A mob reportedly dragged Dipu out of the factory, and he was beaten to death. Shockingly, the assailants then hanged his body from a tree on the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway road divider and set it on fire.
The following morning, Dipu’s grieving family in Tarakanda was left devastated. His father explained that Dipu, the eldest of three sons, was the sole breadwinner, supporting the family despite financial hardship. “He could not even afford to pay for his university exam forms, so he took up the factory job,” Ravidas said. His mother, Shefali Rani Das, added that Dipu suffered from high blood pressure but prioritised sending money home over his own treatment.
Dipu’s sister, Chompa Das, emphasised that her brother was not the kind of person to speak disrespectfully about religion and suggested that the conflict may have been fabricated to target him. Dipu’s widow, Meghna Rani, spoke tearfully of their one-year-old child and questioned how the family would survive.
Authorities have confirmed that the family is being provided security. Valuka Model Police Station filed a case, with Dipu’s brother, Apu Das, as the complainant, naming unknown individuals as suspects. Security officer Firoz Mia stated that Dipu was asked to apologise, but when he refused, tensions escalated, leading to the tragic outcome. Police later restored order.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General, Mia Golam Parwar, condemned the incident, calling for a fair investigation and the prosecution of those responsible, stressing that extrajudicial killings and mob violence are incompatible with both Islamic teachings and the rule of law.
