A tragic road accident in south-western Bangladesh claimed the lives of three members of a family, leaving three others critically injured. The victims, comprising a father, his son, and his young granddaughter, were returning from a visit to relatives in Chuadanga when their private car collided with a tree on the Jashore-Magura Highway.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Majid Sardar (70), his son Mahmud Hasan Zakaria Jony (43), and Jony’s four-year-old daughter Seherish. The three injured family members were immediately taken to Jashore General Hospital and subsequently referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment due to the severity of their injuries.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 22 March, at approximately 3:00 am, near Gaidghat in Bagarpara, Jashore district. Police reports indicate that the family had been travelling from a relative’s house in Chuadanga to their home in Fatehabad village, Monirampur Upazila, Jashore. Upon reaching the Gaidghat area, the driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle, which then struck a large banyan tree on the roadside.
Police and fire service teams responded promptly, rescuing the victims and transporting them to Jashore General Hospital. Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Barbazar Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Alamgir Kabir Jugantar told reporters, “We received the report around 3:15 am. Upon arrival, we found the private car crashed against a tree on the right side of the road. There were no eyewitnesses at the scene to confirm the exact cause, but preliminary investigation suggests the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.”
