Female Constable Found Hanging in Kalapara

The body of a female police constable, Meherunnesa Urmi (28), has been recovered by law enforcement officials in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district. Police confirmed that her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside a rented flat in the early hours of Saturday.

According to police sources, the incident occurred at a residential building in the West Badurtoli area under Tiakhali Union. The deceased was discovered inside a three-storey flat where she had been residing with her husband.

Meherunnesa Urmi was serving as a constable at Kalapara Police Station. She had joined the station approximately eight months prior to her death. She was the daughter of Shahjahan Mia and originally hailed from Amtali municipality in Barguna district. Her husband, Mohibbur Rahman, is a dismissed police member from Indrapur village in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali.

Police and local residents stated that the couple had been living in a rented apartment on the third floor of a five-storey building in the area. Locals further reported that there had been ongoing domestic disputes between the couple over family-related issues. It was also noted that such disputes had previously required community intervention, with local residents attempting mediation on multiple occasions.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalapara Police Station, Md. Nazrul Islam, stated that the police were first informed of the incident at approximately 1:30 am on Friday night. According to him, the husband of the deceased contacted the police and reported that his wife had allegedly taken her own life by hanging from a ceiling fan inside their residence.

Following this report, police personnel arrived at the scene and recovered the body in the early hours of Saturday. The body was subsequently taken into police custody for necessary procedures.

Authorities confirmed that the husband of the deceased and their two children were brought to the police station for initial questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have stated that they are examining all possible aspects related to the incident in order to determine the exact cause and circumstances of death.

At this stage, law enforcement officials have not issued any final conclusion regarding the nature of the death. The investigation process includes verification of statements from family members, examination of the scene, and collection of relevant evidence.
