In a chilling incident late on Saturday night, a passenger bus parked in Savar became the target of suspected arson. The fire broke out around 11 PM on the Aricha-bound lane of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, near the Genda Bus Stand, causing widespread alarm among local residents. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, though the exact extent of the damage remains unclear.
Inspector Meherul Islam, a warehouse inspector with the Savar Fire Service, told reporters on Sunday morning that the fire was brought under control shortly after their unit arrived at the scene. “We received the alert around 11 PM and quickly dispatched a team. Our firefighters managed to contain the blaze without any injuries,” he explained.
Despite a thorough inspection, authorities have not yet identified the culprit behind the attack. The motive for the fire remains speculative, though preliminary assessments suggest it may have been deliberately set by miscreants. The investigation is ongoing, and the fire service continues to collect evidence from the scene.
Savar Model Police Station officer-in-charge Arman Ali stated that police had visited the site immediately after the incident. “We are currently trying to locate the bus driver and owner. Investigations are underway to determine how the fire started,” he said.
Local commuters expressed shock at the event, noting that such incidents create anxiety and insecurity on the highways. Social media users also shared photos and videos of the fire, raising concerns over public safety and the security of vehicles parked overnight in busy transit areas.
Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the fire service has warned owners of parked buses and other vehicles to remain vigilant and implement safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
