First-Time Voters Voice Hopes for Country

As the nation approaches a pivotal general election, voters across Bangladesh are preparing to exercise their democratic rights. Among them are several first-time voters, who have expressed their expectations regarding the country’s future and leadership. Notable personalities Khairul Basar, Sunarah Binte Kamal, Jannatul Aishi, Sadia Ayman, Tasrif Khan, and Mahtim Shakib shared their views with journalist Manjurul Alam, highlighting aspirations for peace, justice, and effective governance.

Khairul Basar, a prominent actor, commented:
“Previously, elections were celebrated with much fanfare. Today, citizens in Dhaka are heading to polling stations in a peaceful environment. I hope leaders refrain from harsh rhetoric or aggressive behaviour. Elected representatives must prioritise national development and the welfare of the people.”

Sunarah Binte Kamal, actress, said:
“I am not a political analyst, but I wish well for our country. Citizens’ rights, mental peace, and encouragement of creativity must be promoted. Order in all sectors is essential for national progress.”

Jannatul Aishi, another actress, added:
“I hope for peace, improved working conditions, and adherence to the Constitution. The creation of employment opportunities for the unemployed is crucial. Focused governance in these areas will make citizens’ lives safer and more secure.”

Sadia Ayman emphasised:
“A safe environment and law enforcement are essential. People should be able to move freely without fear, and professional activities should not be hindered.”

Musician Tasrif Khan remarked:
“Let the elections be fair and the government uphold justice. Deception against citizens must end, and religion should not be misused for political gains. The vision of a just society, long envisioned on 5 August, must finally come to fruition.”

Mahtim Shakib, also a musician, stressed:
“Peace and freedom are indispensable. Artists and musicians should work without obstacles. Infrastructure and transport solutions are urgently needed for the benefit of citizens and the creative community.”
