Five-Day Jor Ijtema Commences at Tongi Maidan

The five-day preparatory gathering known as Jor Ijtema commenced today, Friday, following the Fajr prayers with a general sermon (Aam Bayan) at the Biswa Ijtema grounds on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi, Gazipur. Organized by the Shura-e-Nizam (followers of Maulana Zubayer), this significant spiritual gathering is scheduled to conclude with the final prayer (Akheri Munajat) before noon next Tuesday (2 December). Habibullah Raihan, the media coordinator for the Shura-e-Nizam, confirmed these details to the press.

Habibullah Raihan explained that the Jor Ijtema is organised annually as an integral part of the preparations for the main Biswa Ijtema. This gathering is specifically meant for dedicated followers who have completed at least three “Chillas” or four months of voluntary preaching (Tabligh). Thousands of experienced devotees from both home and abroad have gathered to receive spiritual guidance and instructions on how to manage the forthcoming global congregation. It serves as a strategic meeting to ensure the disciplined execution of the main event.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi West Police Station, Md. Harun-or-Rashid, stated that comprehensive security measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of the participants during the five-day event. Additional police personnel have been deployed around the vast Maidan, and surveillance has been intensified. Furthermore, the local authorities have conducted an eviction drive against illegal structures near the grounds to facilitate the smooth movement of the pilgrims and vehicles.

The Jor Ijtema plays a vital role in the Tabligh Jamat movement, as senior elders assign various tasks and delegations to different districts from this platform. Volunteers are selected and briefed on maintaining order and providing services during the upcoming Biswa Ijtema in 2025. This preparatory gathering is essential for managing the millions of worshippers expected to attend the world’s second-largest Muslim congregation. The successful completion of this event will pave the way for a peaceful and organized main Ijtema.
