Kachpur, Sonargaon – A disturbing incident occurred in the Raiyartek area of Kachpur, Sonargaon, on Wednesday night, 18 February, when a suspected mobile phone theft escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving five individuals seriously injured. Local residents apprehended a suspect and handed him over to the police.
According to law enforcement officials and eyewitnesses, the incident took place near the Partex playground around midnight. The conflict began after Nirab Mia reported that his mobile phone had gone missing from the playground. Suspicion quickly fell on 21-year-old Amin Mia.
Following the disappearance of the phone, Nirab Mia, accompanied by four acquaintances, approached Amin Mia in an attempt to recover the device. Eyewitnesses stated that although Amin initially promised to return the phone, he later led them back to the playground. A verbal disagreement rapidly escalated into a physical attack, during which Amin allegedly wielded a sharp weapon and inflicted injuries on five people.
The victims of the attack were identified as Nirab Mia, Md. Sujan, Kawser Mia, Sohan, and Chonchol. Local residents, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene, assisted the injured, and restrained the attacker until police arrived. All five victims were promptly admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors reported that two of them are in critical condition.
Following the incident, Nirab Mia’s aunt, Shiuli, filed a formal complaint at Sonargaon Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Mohibullah confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody. He stated, “The case has been officially registered, and following initial processing, the accused will be presented before the court. Appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.”
