In Chattogram, the hanging body of a young man was recovered from the railing of a flyover in the Sagarika area of Pahartali. The deceased has been identified as Kawsar Ahmed. Police recovered the body from the site at approximately 3 am on Monday.
According to police and local sources, Kawsar Ahmed was employed in a temporary capacity as a security guard for a scrap-carrying vehicle belonging to a rod manufacturing company. His professional duties involved guarding transport vehicles engaged in scrap material movement for the company.
Following the incident, several posts circulated on social media claiming that Kawsar Ahmed had held the position of Liberation War Affairs Secretary of the banned Chhatra League’s Akbar Shah Thana unit. Some of these posts also alleged that the incident was a case of murder. However, the police have stated that no evidence has been found to support any political involvement by the deceased. The family has also confirmed that he was not associated with any political organisation.
Pahartali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nurul Absar stated that, based on preliminary findings, the deceased was working as a temporary security staff member. He further noted that, according to information provided by family members, Kawsar Ahmed had been suffering from mental distress for a prolonged period. On this basis, police have initially considered the incident as a case of suicide.
The officer also confirmed that no visible injury marks were found on the body. The deceased’s mother, Parveen Akhtar, informed police that her son was not involved in politics. Following the recovery, the body was sent for post-mortem examination as part of standard procedure.
After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family on Tuesday afternoon. A case of unnatural death has been registered at Pahartali Police Station in connection with the incident. Police have stated that further legal procedures will continue in accordance with the findings of the investigation.
