Former volleyball coach Mostafa Kamal has passed away

Mostafa Kamal, former coach of the Bangladesh national volleyball team, lifelong member of the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA), and a distinguished sports organiser, passed away early this morning at his residence in Dhaka. He was 88 years old.

Kamal had been suffering from kidney disease along with multiple other health complications in recent years. He leaves behind his wife and two daughters, as well as a host of admirers and protégés who benefited from his decades-long contribution to Bangladeshi sports.

Renowned for his multifaceted contributions to the country’s sporting community, Kamal held several significant positions. Alongside coaching the national volleyball team, he served as Vice-President of the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation and played an instrumental role in organising and promoting the sport at both national and grassroots levels. His work extended beyond coaching; he was also recognised as a prolific sports journalist and writer, documenting the development of sports in Bangladesh and inspiring future generations.

The Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) expressed deep sorrow at Kamal’s passing. In an official statement, the organisation prayed for the eternal peace of his soul and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.

Funeral prayers for Mostafa Kamal will be held today after the Dhuhr (noon) prayer at the Eastern Plus Shopping Mall Jame Mosque in Shantinagar. A second funeral prayer will take place at the National Stadium at 2:30 PM. Following these ceremonies, his body will be laid to rest at the Rayerbazar Buddhijibi Graveyard.
