Two further Bangladeshi citizens have died whilst performing the sacred Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. The deaths occurred on Sunday, 31 May 2026, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Religious Affairs through its dedicated Hajj Management Portal. These recent fatalities bring the total number of Bangladeshi pilgrim deaths during this year’s Hajj season to 41.
Details of the Recent Fatalities
The two pilgrims who passed away on Sunday have been identified as Mohammad Abdul Majid and Mohammad Shahjahan Ali.
Mohammad Abdul Majid: A resident of the Naogaon district, he passed away in the holy city of Medina.
Mohammad Shahjahan Ali: Hailing from the Khilgaon area of the capital city, Dhaka, he died in the holy city of Mecca.
To date, the demographics and locations of the 41 Bangladeshi casualties show that the vast majority of deaths occurred in Mecca, with male pilgrims constituting the higher proportion of fatalities.

Flight Operations and Pilgrim Logistics
The primary Hajj rituals for the year took place on 26 May 2026. The initial phase of air operations commenced on 18 April 2026, when the first outbound Hajj flight departed Bangladesh for Saudi Arabia, with the final outbound flights concluding on 21 May 2026.
Following the completion of their religious obligations, pilgrims are currently being repatriated to Bangladesh. The return flight phase initiated on 30 May 2026 and is scheduled to continue until 30 June 2026. Official portal data confirmed that 11,613 Bangladeshi pilgrims had successfully returned home by Sunday.
A total of approximately 78,500 Bangladeshi nationals travelled to Saudi Arabia this year to perform the pilgrimage. These pilgrims were managed through both state-led and commercial channels:
Government Management: 4,565 pilgrims travelled under official state arrangements.
Private Management: 73,935 pilgrims travelled via registered private Hajj agencies.
According to data published by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia, more than 1.5 million Muslims from various countries across the globe travelled to the kingdom this year to participate in the annual pilgrimage.
