Four Cocktail Explosions Rattle Dhaka City Streets

Dhaka was thrown into alarm on Thursday afternoon as a series of cocktail attacks targeted key locations in the city, leaving one woman injured and prompting a swift response from local authorities. The incidents, which occurred on the Shantinagar and Moghbazar flyovers, have raised serious concerns about public safety in the capital.

According to the Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the first attack took place around 4:15 pm at the Shantinagar Crossing East Signal, where an explosive device was hurled from the flyover. A woman pedestrian sustained a head injury in the blast and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by traffic officers, receiving prompt medical attention.

Shortly thereafter, at approximately 4:30 pm, two consecutive explosions occurred on the Mouchak Crossing flyover. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in these incidents, but the explosions caused panic among bystanders and disrupted traffic flow in the busy commercial area.

The series of attacks continued at around 5 pm, when another cocktail was thrown from the Moghbazar flyover onto the Rainbow Crossing area. Once again, authorities confirmed that there were no injuries, although the blasts sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood and left residents anxious about their safety.

Police officials have stated that surveillance and patrolling in the affected areas have been intensified to prevent further incidents. Efforts are underway to identify the perpetrators and ensure that similar attacks do not recur. Traffic management teams have also been deployed to restore normalcy and assist pedestrians and commuters in the vicinity.

While the motivations behind these attacks remain unclear, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The prompt medical intervention in the case of the injured woman highlights the importance of coordinated response between law enforcement and emergency services during such urban security threats.

As the investigation unfolds, residents and commuters are being advised to exercise caution when travelling on the city’s flyovers, while authorities continue to bolster security measures to safeguard public spaces. The incidents underscore the ongoing challenge of maintaining safety in densely populated urban centres like Dhaka.
