In a significant blow to regional narcotics trafficking, the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) successfully intercepted a substantial consignment of cannabis in Netrokona’s Kendua Upazila. During the tactical operation conducted on Tuesday afternoon, four suspected traffickers were apprehended, and a modified vehicle used for transporting the illicit substances was seized.
The Operation at Sandikona
Acting on a discrete intelligence lead, a specialised team from the Netrokona District DNC, led by Assistant Director Md. Nazmul Haque, established a checkpoint at the Perir Mor intersection on the Kendua-Atharabari road. At approximately 4:00 pm, officers intercepted a suspicious CNG-run auto-rickshaw navigating through the Sandikona Union.
A meticulous search of the vehicle revealed a sophisticated concealment method. The traffickers had stashed 30 kilograms of premium-grade cannabis within a secret compartment located behind the rear seat, adjacent to the engine bay. The seized narcotics carry an estimated street value of approximately £6,500 (BDT 900,000).
Profile of the Suspects
The four individuals detained during the raid hail from diverse regions across the Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, suggesting a coordinated inter-district smuggling ring.
