Emergency services rushed to contain a major fire that broke out at a ready-made garment factory in the Jirabo area of Ashulia, an industrial hub near Dhaka. The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 pm on Sunday, 20 September, inside the FNF factory complex, a unit operated by the Priti Group. Four firefighting crews were promptly deployed to bring the situation under control.
Upon receiving the alarm, response teams mounted a coordinated operation. Two crews from the DEPZ Fire Station and two additional units from Jirabo Modern Fire Station responded swiftly, arriving on site within minutes. Firefighters focused their initial efforts on creating containment perimeters to stop the blaze from spreading to neighbouring industrial premises while verifying whether any workers remained trapped inside the building.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported hearing a loud blast prior to the fire, suggesting that a boiler explosion within the facility may have triggered the blaze. Fire Service and Civil Defence officials noted that whilst boiler malfunctions are a common hazard in garment manufacturing plants, the precise cause of the outbreak will be determined only after a full technical investigation is completed.
No casualties or injuries were reported during the immediate emergency response. Officials explained that assessing the exact extent of structural damage and financial losses would require a thorough inspection once cooling-off operations had concluded and the site was declared safe.
Faruq Hossain, duty officer at the DEPZ Fire Station, confirmed that all four dispatched units remained actively engaged at the scene, working in coordination to douse the flames entirely.
Ashulia stands as one of Bangladesh’s key industrial belts, housing hundreds of textile, garment, and manufacturing facilities employing a massive workforce. Given the high concentration of industrial units and synthetic materials in the district, containment efforts are vital to prevent fires from engulfing adjoining structures and ensuring worker safety.
