Authorities from the Coast Guard’s Western Zone, Mongla, have apprehended Osman Gani, 38, a known member of the notorious Karim Sharif gang, in the Murtir Khal area adjoining the Shela River in the Sundarbans. The arrest, which included the seizure of weapons and ammunition, represents a significant step in ongoing anti-bandit operations in the region.
Lieutenant Commander Abrar Hasan, the operation officer, stated that the arrest was executed on Thursday, 12 March, following a tip-off from confidential sources. A subsequent search of Gani’s possession yielded the following items:

Lieutenant Commander Hasan emphasised, “Our operations will continue until the Sundarbans are entirely free of bandits. Legal action is being taken in accordance with the recovered evidence.”
This operation was part of a broader initiative not only to disrupt criminal activities but also to bolster security in the Sundarbans. Coast Guard sources noted that heightened surveillance and joint patrols are being conducted regularly. “No leniency will be shown to criminals; public safety remains our top priority,” officials added.
