Gangster Arrested in Sundarbans, Arms Seized

In a decisive operation in the Sundarbans, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has apprehended an active member of the notorious Dyall gang. During the operation, a firearm and four rounds of live ammunition were recovered based on information provided by the suspect.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, the Coast Guard’s media officer, confirmed the arrests and seizure in a press release on Tuesday, 10 March. The detained individual, Abdul Halim, aged 36, is a resident of Shyamnagar Upazila in Satkhira.

According to the press release, intelligence sources had revealed that a prominent member of the Dyall gang was planning to enter the Sundarbans to supply provisions and resources to the gang. Acting on this tip-off, a joint operation was launched at 10:00 am by Coast Guard Base Mongla and Outpost Nolian in the Shibsha River area under Dakop Police Station, Khulna. During the operation, Abdul Halim, known for supplying weapons, ammunition, and logistical support to the gang, was apprehended.

Further investigation based on information from Halim led to a second operation at 1:00 pm the same day near Takattola Khal, also under Dakop Police Station. This raid resulted in the recovery of a single-barrel firearm and four rounds of fresh ammunition, highlighting the operational capability of the gang within the Sundarbans region.

The Coast Guard has indicated that Abdul Halim had been actively assisting the Dyall gang in criminal activities, including armed robbery and smuggling, by providing essential supplies. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against him, and the seized arms and ammunition are now in police custody for further investigation.
