The price of gold in Bangladesh has reached yet another historic high, breaking new records in the domestic market. On Wednesday morning, the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BJA) announced that the price of high-quality 22-carat gold increased by Tk 7,348 per tola, effective from 10:15 a.m.
The association issued an official statement at 10:26 a.m., providing details of the latest adjustment. Typically, such price notifications are released in the evening, making this morning announcement unusually early. On Tuesday, gold prices had already risen by Tk 5,249 per tola, highlighting the persistent upward trend. Following Wednesday’s adjustment, the new price of 22-carat gold stands at Tk 269,788 per tola.
The consistent rise in gold prices has been particularly notable in the five years following the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023 alone, the domestic market witnessed several key milestones: on 21 July, gold prices first touched the Tk 100,000 mark per tola; by February 2024, the price had climbed to Tk 150,000; in October 2024, it surpassed Tk 200,000; and just last Thursday, gold exceeded the Tk 250,000 threshold.
Market experts attribute the domestic surge to increases in international gold prices. At the time of reporting, the global price of gold had risen by $162 per ounce, reaching $5,254. The BJA adjusts local prices to reflect global trends, ensuring that fluctuations in international markets are transmitted to both consumers and traders in Bangladesh.
The current prices of various types and carats of gold are summarised in the table below:
| Gold Type | New Price per Tola (Tk) | Price Increase (Tk) | Previous Price (Tk) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22-carat | 269,788 | 7,348 | 262,440 |
| 21-carat | 257,122 | 6,800 | 250,322 |
| 18-carat | 220,570 | 5,950 | 214,620 |
| Traditional Style | 200,450 | 5,500 | 194,950 |
Analysts suggest that such domestic price adjustments are likely to continue in line with global market trends. The BJA has advised both buyers and traders to stay alert to price movements and prepare for further fluctuations.
This latest surge establishes a historic benchmark, marking the highest price for gold per tola ever recorded in Bangladesh.
