Grocer Kidnapped in Pabna, Ransom Paid for Release

A shocking abduction and ransom incident has unsettled the residents and traders of Sujanagar municipal market in Pabna. On Sunday evening, 1 March 2026, Mohammad Ripon Hossain, a local grocer, was forcibly kidnapped while collecting oil from a warehouse adjacent to the Nandita Cinema Hall Market. Ripon’s nephew, Alamin, was also present during the ordeal but was unharmed.

According to police and eyewitness reports, the alleged mastermind, Mohammad Sabuj Hossain, son of the late Kasim Uddin of Bhawanipur East Para, along with four to five unidentified accomplices, forcibly placed Ripon on a motorcycle and transported him to an abandoned site behind Sujanagar Women’s Degree College. There, the victim was subjected to physical assault, suffering injuries to multiple parts of his body. The assailants initially stole cash amounting to BDT 10,000.

Subsequently, the kidnappers contacted Ripon’s father, Siddiq Pramanik, via the mobile number 01752-062596, demanding a ransom of BDT 50,000. After negotiation, the family paid BDT 10,000, following which Ripon was released around 9:00 PM the same evening.

The incident has sparked widespread fear and anger among traders in Sujanagar municipal market. Ripon Hossain has called for a thorough investigation and the immediate arrest of those responsible.

Sadiq Ahmed, Assistant Superintendent of Police for the Sujanagar circle, confirmed that the police are currently monitoring the crime scene and involved individuals. Legal action will follow according to the law. Attempts to contact the main accused, Sabuj Hossain, were unsuccessful, as his phone remains switched off.
