Head-on Collision Between Army Truck and Bus Kills Two

A devastating head-on collision between an army three-ton truck and a passenger bus left two people dead and at least fifteen others injured on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred at around 10:45 am at Balia Mor, in front of Kakli Rice Mill, along the Sherpur–Mymensingh highway.

The deceased have been identified as Sergeant Rezaul Karim, the driver of the army truck, and Abdul Baset, the driver of the passenger bus.

According to Officer-in-Charge of Fulpur Police Station, Rashidul Hasan, the army truck was returning to Mymensingh after completing a camp exercise when it collided head-on with a bus travelling towards Sherpur. The impact caused the front sections of both vehicles to crumple severely.

At least fifteen people sustained injuries in the collision. Nine injured passengers were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, while six others were taken to Mymensingh Combined Military Hospital for treatment. Sergeant Rezaul Karim and Abdul Baset succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital.

Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance & Administration), Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, confirmed that both drivers were killed in the accident and emphasised that legal proceedings are underway regarding the incident. He added that the accident resulted in significant disruption along the Mymensingh–Haluaghat road, creating severe traffic congestion.

Emergency personnel from the army, police, and fire service jointly conducted a rescue operation to remove the damaged vehicles and restore traffic flow.
