A head-on collision between a newspaper delivery vehicle and a truck on the Dhaka–Barishal Highway in Madaripur’s Dasar upazila has resulted in one death and five injuries.
The accident occurred on Monday morning (15 June) at Karnapara area under Baligram Union of Dasar upazila. According to local sources, a sand-laden truck travelling from Barishal towards Dhaka collided head-on with a pickup van carrying newspapers en route from Dhaka to the southern region.
The impact of the collision was severe, causing extensive damage to the front section of the newspaper transport vehicle. The vehicle was left heavily crushed following the crash. Newspaper distribution contractor Naeem died on the spot due to the force of the impact. Five other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
Local residents and bystanders quickly responded and rescued the injured persons. They were transported to Madaripur Sadar Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Following the incident, fire service personnel and police arrived at the scene. Rescue operations were carried out, and the damaged vehicles were removed from the highway to restore normal traffic flow. Authorities confirmed that vehicular movement on the Dhaka–Barishal Highway was temporarily disrupted but later returned to normal.
Local residents reported that road accidents on this highway are frequent. They attributed such incidents to overspeeding, reckless overtaking, and violations of traffic regulations.
Khokon Jamaddar, officer of Kalকini Fire Service, stated that emergency teams recovered the body of the deceased after receiving information and subsequently worked to normalise traffic conditions on the highway.
Dasar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Solaiman Mahmud confirmed that the body had been recovered and that the situation on the highway remained stable following the clearance operation.
