Ashraful Alam, popularly known as Hero Alom and a well-known content creator in the country, has been arrested by police. On Saturday (15 November) afternoon, he was arrested by officers of Hatirjheel Police Station in the capital in connection with a case filed by his wife, Riya Moni.
Earlier, Riya Moni had filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station accusing Hero Alom and Ahsan Habib Selim of attempted murder, assault and issuing threats. Last Wednesday, after a petition from the plaintiff’s lawyer, the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury stated that the accused violated the conditions of their bail and were not appearing before the court regularly. Therefore, an application was submitted seeking cancellation of their bail. After the hearing, the court cancelled their bail and ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant.
According to the case statement, tension recently developed between Hero Alom and Riya Moni. At one stage, Hero Alom divorced her and sent her out of the house. Later, on 21 June, both families were called to a house under Hatirjheel Police Station for the purpose of reconciliation. The complaint alleges that at that time, Hero Alom along with 10–12 unidentified individuals verbally abused Riya Moni and her family members.
Subsequently, they unlawfully entered Riya Moni’s current residence and assaulted her with wooden sticks, causing injuries. The complaint also states that they stole a gold chain weighing one and a half vori from her neck. On 23 June, Riya Moni filed the case at Hatirjheel Police Station.
