Housewife gang-raped, five accused charged

In a horrifying incident in Kashiani, Gopalganj, a housewife was allegedly abducted at gunpoint and gang-raped while travelling by auto-rickshaw to her sister’s home. The attack took place on Saturday, 10 January, around 7:00 pm in the vicinity of Ghonapara Bazar in the upazila.

The victim, a resident of Baliadanga village in Maheshpur Union, is reportedly a mother of one child. According to court documents, the attackers threatened her with firearms, forcibly took her to the second floor of a building, stripped her, and filmed objectionable videos and photographs while possessing drugs and weapons. They allegedly threatened to circulate the images online and took turns sexually assaulting her.

Following the incident, the victim filed a case at the Gopalganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, naming five individuals while also including four to five unidentified suspects. On Monday, the tribunal accepted the case and instructed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kashiani Police Station to register it and take legal action.

Advocate Jaber Alam Molla, representing the victim, confirmed the filing of the case and its acceptance by the tribunal.

Kashiani Police Station OC Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman stated: “Once we receive the court order, we will take all necessary legal measures.”

This case has sparked shock and outrage in the local community, highlighting ongoing concerns about the safety of women in the area and the need for swift legal intervention. Authorities have assured that the investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to apprehend the unidentified suspects involved in this heinous crime.
