NARAIL — A violent dispute driven by domestic friction and allegations of infidelity resulted in the death of a 32-year-old woman in Narail’s Lohagara sub-district, after her husband subjected her to a brutal assault with a hammer.
The incident took place on Sunday afternoon in Korfa village, located within the Mallikpur Union of Lohagara. The deceased has been identified as Jesmin Khanm, 32, daughter of Siddique Mir, a lifelong resident of Korfa village. Her husband, Jasim Sheikh, son of Momrez Sheikh from the same village, turned himself in to local police shortly after the attack.
According to statements from police officials and relatives, long-standing marital tensions escalated rapidly on Sunday when Jasim confronted his wife with accusations of an extramarital relationship. The argument turned violent when Jasim grabbed a heavy hammer and repeatedly struck Jesmin across her head and body, inflicting severe trauma.
Alerted by her screams, relatives and local residents intervened and recovered the gravely injured woman. She was taken to the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex for emergency treatment. Due to her rapidly worsening condition and the severity of her head injuries, duty doctors transferred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for specialised neurosurgical care. Despite intensive medical efforts, Jesmin succumbed to her injuries later that afternoon while receiving treatment at DMCH.
Confirming the incident, Abdur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station, stated that the police were notified of Jesmin’s death directly by DMCH authorities. He confirmed that the suspect walked into the police station to surrender immediately after committing the assault.
Following the event, law enforcement deployed additional police personnel to Korfa village as a preventative measure to maintain public order and prevent potential escalation between the two families. Authorities have initiated a formal inquiry to gather forensic evidence, record witness testimonies, and proceed with filing murder charges against the suspect.
