IDRA Recruitment Suspended Following Court Notice

The ongoing recruitment process of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) has been immediately suspended after four officials filed a formal notice in court. The notice alleges that the current recruitment drive is in direct conflict with a High Court directive issued in 2023. The officials have demanded that the authority provide a written assurance within 24 hours confirming compliance with the court’s orders.

The notice was served to the Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance, the Chairman of IDRA, and the authority’s administrative members. Advocate Rahul Talukdar Parag, representing the officials, appeared on their behalf during the notice submission.

The officials who submitted the notice are as follows:

NameDesignationGrade

Delwar Hossain BhuiyaExecutive Officer8
Kazi Abdul ZahidExecutive Officer8
Md. Shafiqul IslamJunior Officer9

The notice refers to a High Court ruling on 3 December 2023, which declared the IDRA Officers and Staff Service Regulations, 2021, illegal. Consequently, the notice demands that the current recruitment process be suspended, annulled, and withdrawn immediately. It also calls upon the authority, in accordance with Writ Petition No. 13139/2019, to refrain from infringing upon the rights of its officers and staff, and to submit a written report on the current status of recruitment within 24 hours.

Non-compliance with the notice may result in:

  • Contempt of court proceedings against responsible officials.

  • Filing of a fresh writ petition challenging the recruitment process.

  • Disciplinary, civil, and criminal actions against the individuals involved.

  • Claims for compensation and legal costs due to violation of fundamental rights.

At a preliminary selection meeting on 19 January, appointments were decided for six candidates in Grades 6 and 7.
