“If Guilty, Let Me Be Executed,” Says Zahid Antu

Bangladesh’s young singer, composer, and lyricist Zahid Antu has recently been embroiled in a serious legal controversy. He was arrested in Dhaka’s Gulshan area following allegations of sexual assault against a former girlfriend, a student of Eden College. The very next day, on 2 April, a court granted him interim bail.

Following these events, Zahid used his social media platform to express his thoughts and position regarding the accusations. On Tuesday, 7 April, he shared a photograph of himself on Facebook with the caption:

“A wise person does not comment based on only one side of the story. The law will decide. If I am guilty, let me be executed. I will accept it with a smile. Allah is the ultimate judge.”

Incident Overview

According to the complaint, Zahid Antu first met the Eden College student during a guitar class at Dhaka University’s TSC last year. Their acquaintance eventually developed into a romantic relationship, which later ended, leading to a cessation of communication.

On 27 March, Zahid reportedly invited the student to his Gulshan residence under the pretext of a product photoshoot. Once she arrived, the allegations claim he sexually assaulted her against her will. When she resisted, she was reportedly physically attacked, resulting in injuries to her face, neck, and head.

The victim managed to leave the residence and, with the help of family members, received initial treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital. She subsequently filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Gulshan Police Station on 30 March.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam granted Zahid interim bail until 19 April 2026.
