In a shocking incident in Bogura, a 55-year-old auto-van driver, Mozam Uddin Shah, was brutally murdered and his battery-operated vehicle stolen on Tuesday night. The crime occurred near paddy fields beside the Dupchanchia–Akkelpur road in the Borhia area of Ziangar Union, Dupchanchia Upazila.
According to Afzal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Dupchanchia Police Station, the perpetrators attacked the driver, striking him on the head before dumping his body in water. The body has been sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) morgue for post-mortem examination, and preparations for a formal criminal case are underway.
Police and family sources identified the deceased as Mozam Uddin Shah, son of the late Mohir Uddin Shah of Jhalghoria village in Ziangar Union. He had set out from his home in the afternoon as usual, operating his auto-van to transport passengers. At some point during the night, assailants, reportedly disguised as passengers, attacked him with a heavy object, killing him. They then abandoned the body in a water-filled paddy field near an under-construction bridge on the Dupchanchia–Akkelpur road and fled with the vehicle.
The body was discovered by local pedestrians early on Wednesday morning, who immediately alerted law enforcement authorities. Police retrieved the body and noted multiple injuries to the head and other parts of the body, indicating the violent nature of the attack.
“The attack appears premeditated,” Officer-in-Charge Afzal Hossain told reporters. “It seems the assailants targeted the auto-van driver with the intention of seizing his vehicle. We are conducting investigations and preparing a case. Operations to apprehend the culprits are ongoing.”
The violent incident has left the local community in shock, raising concerns over passenger safety and street crime in the Dupchanchia area. Residents have urged police to increase patrols and implement measures to ensure safer travel along the Dupchanchia–Akkelpur route.
