A new political alliance may be announced very soon ahead of the upcoming national election, according to Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP). He said the alliance would stand against religious fascism and extortion and plans to field candidates in all 300 parliamentary constituencies.
Patwari made the remarks on Monday night (25 November) at a press conference held after a meeting with party nomination aspirants at the NCP’s temporary office in Banglamotor, Dhaka. He stated that the country would soon witness the emergence of a new political bloc outside the BNP-Jamaat framework.
He added that the alliance would work to realise the objectives of the July mass uprising and represent an alternative political force committed to reform and democratic transformation. According to him, the proposed alliance will support institutional reforms, women’s rights, the dignity of Islamic scholars, and will take a firm stand against corruption, terrorism and extortion.
Speaking at the same press conference, NCP’s Chief Organiser for the southern region, Hasnat Abdullah, alleged that India and the Awami League are attempting to sabotage the election by using the Jatiya Party. He claimed that efforts are underway to obstruct the electoral process and destabilise the country.
Hasnat Abdullah further alleged that certain economic forces linked to India and the Awami League may act through the Jatiya Party to disrupt the election and create political instability. He urged citizens to remain vigilant against such alleged conspiracies.
NCP leaders also called on political parties to move away from a mindset of dividing administrative control following the July uprising and instead focus on meaningful state reforms. It was noted that the press conference followed a two-day-long internal consultation programme with nomination aspirants as part of the party’s preparation for the upcoming election.
