Iranian military and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) air defence units have reportedly destroyed more than 160 enemy drones, several advanced fighter jets, and dozens of cruise missiles, according to Brigadier General Ali Reza Elhami. He made the statement during an inspection of key air defence positions across the country.
Brigadier General Elhami emphasised that the operation demonstrates Iran’s strategic prowess and readiness to counter any aerial threats. Among the neutralised drones were models such as the MQ-9 Reaper, Hermes, and Lucas, reflecting the sophistication of targets successfully engaged by Iranian forces.
“This operation has shattered the invaders’ imagined propaganda,” Elhami said, adding that Iranian units remain fully prepared to intercept and neutralise enemy aircraft and drones.
He highlighted that the destruction of multiple fourth- and fifth-generation enemy fighter jets is a testament to the Iranian military’s advanced tactics, innovative use of modern equipment, and the effectiveness of the national air defence network. According to Elhami, these successes have created confusion within enemy ranks and strengthened Iran’s defensive posture.
Summary of Reported Air Defence Successes
| Asset Type | Quantity Destroyed | Notable Models / Details |
|---|---|---|
| Drones | 160+ | MQ-9, Hermes, Lucas |
| Cruise Missiles | Several Dozen | Unspecified models |
| Fighter Jets | Multiple | Fourth- and fifth-generation aircraft |
Elhami further stated that Iran’s air defence network, which integrates both conventional military and IRGC units, remains united and committed to protecting the country’s airspace at all costs.
The heightened tensions follow a major military operation launched by the United States and Israel after the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior military officials on 28 February. That operation caused extensive damage to both military and civilian infrastructure across Iran and resulted in significant casualties.
In response, Iran’s armed forces have conducted missile and drone strikes targeting American and Israeli positions in the Middle East and regional military bases. These retaliatory actions underscore Tehran’s commitment to defending its territory and projecting strategic deterrence in the region.
Brigadier General Elhami concluded by reiterating Iran’s preparedness to counter any further aerial incursions, asserting that the country’s air defence system is both technologically capable and operationally vigilant. Analysts say these developments signal a continued escalation in military capabilities and strategic messaging from Iran, reflecting the nation’s determination to safeguard its sovereignty and regional interests.
