Iran Warns Gulf States Over Energy Infrastructure

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a stern warning to its Gulf neighbours, signalling that any further attacks on its energy infrastructure will provoke retaliatory strikes on oil and gas facilities across the region.

In a statement reported by Iranian state media, the IRGC said: “We are once again warning that targeting the Islamic Republic’s energy infrastructure was a grave mistake. The response has already begun. Any repeat attack will not be stopped until the energy facilities of those responsible and their allies are completely destroyed. This response will be far more severe than before.”

This warning follows an Israeli strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field, which triggered immediate volatility in global energy markets. Brent crude prices surged over six percent, approaching $110 per barrel.

The IRGC specifically named several high-profile facilities as potential targets in the event of further escalation: Saudi Arabia’s Samref refinery and Jubail Petrochemical Complex, the United Arab Emirates’ Al Hosn gas field, and Qatar’s Mesaieed Petrochemical Complex and Ras Laffan refinery.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Israeli attack on South Pars as a “dangerous and irresponsible action,” with spokesperson Majed Al Ansari highlighting the risk of regional destabilisation.

Meanwhile, Iran has reportedly launched new missile and drone strikes targeting the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, while also halting gas supplies to Iraq. Iran accounts for 30 to 40 percent of Iraq’s total gas and electricity imports, a disruption that threatens to exacerbate an already fragile energy supply in the country.

The United States has voiced concern over the escalating conflict. Former President Donald Trump criticised American allies on social media, urging immediate action to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to international shipping.

Since the onset of this confrontation, U.S. Central Command claims to have struck more than 5,000 targets within Iran. Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has reportedly fallen by nearly 90 percent, raising fears of a prolonged energy crisis.
