In a concerning escalation in the Persian Gulf region, a Bangladeshi expatriate has been killed in Bahrain following Iranian missile attacks. The deceased has been identified as Abul Mohsin, also known as Tarek, aged 52, a resident of Azimpur Union in Sandwip, Chittagong. The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, at approximately 3:30 a.m. local time.
According to family members citing relatives in Bahrain, Abul Mohsin was employed at RC Driedock, a prominent establishment in the Bahraini capital, Manama. It was during an overnight missile strike by Iranian forces targeting strategic locations that he lost his life. His brother-in-law, Riaz Uddin, informed local media that the family received confirmation of his death at 6:00 a.m. Bangladesh time on Monday. Efforts are now underway to repatriate the body to Bangladesh.
Abul Mohsin had been living in Bahrain since 2009 and is survived by a daughter. His immediate family resides in Chittagong city. Sandwip Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Abu Zayed Md. Najmun Noor, confirmed awareness of the incident, stating, “We have received reports through various sources regarding the death of a Bangladeshi expatriate in Bahrain due to missile attacks. Investigations are ongoing.”
The missile strikes are part of a broader regional response by Iran to recent United States and Israeli military actions. Iranian forces have reportedly targeted multiple Persian Gulf states, including Bahrain, which host U.S. military installations, using a combination of missiles and drone attacks. These strikes aim to demonstrate retaliatory capabilities and escalate regional pressure.
Earlier, another Bangladeshi expatriate, Saleh Ahmed, was killed in the United Arab Emirates during a similar Iranian attack. He was reported deceased on Saturday night in the Ajman region of Dubai, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by migrant workers in the region.
The following table summarises the recent incidents involving Bangladeshi casualties due to Iranian military operations in the Gulf:
