Much of Hasan Isakhil’s Bangladesh Premier League campaign passed quietly, spent largely on the substitutes’ bench. Yet when his opportunity finally arrived, the son of Afghanistan great Mohammad Nabi seized it with remarkable authority, producing performances that have reignited his ambition to return to the BPL should another franchise come calling.
Isakhil announced himself in emphatic fashion when he was drafted into the Sylhet–Noakhali Express playing XI. In his very first appearance of the season, he struck a fluent 92 from 60 deliveries, immediately justifying the faith shown in him. The match carried added historical significance, as Isakhil shared the field with his father for the first time in a professional T20 fixture, creating a rare and memorable father–son chapter in BPL history.
That promising debut proved only the beginning. Against Rangpur Riders, Isakhil delivered a truly statement innings, registering his maiden T20 century. He compiled 106 runs from 72 balls, decorating his knock with four boundaries and an astonishing eleven sixes. In doing so, he joined an exclusive group of players to have struck as many as eleven sixes in a single BPL innings — a list previously limited to Chris Gayle, Tamim Iqbal and Johnson Charles.
Despite the scale of the achievement, Isakhil insisted afterwards that personal milestones were far from his mind. He explained that he never walks out to bat with a target number of sixes in mind, adding that he was scarcely aware he had hit eleven on the day. What mattered more, he suggested, was maintaining intent and capitalising on scoring opportunities as they arose.
The century carried extra weight for Isakhil’s career trajectory. While he has already scored hundreds in first-class and List A cricket, this was his first in the T20 format. He believes the innings could prove a turning point, providing confidence and momentum for the future. Crucially, he made clear his desire to feature again in the BPL, stating openly that he would welcome a return if selected by any team.
The innings itself was a study in patience and acceleration. Isakhil reached his fifty from 50 balls, initially finding run-scoring difficult as the pitch offered limited assistance. However, once he adjusted and the conditions eased, he exploded into life, plundering 57 runs from his next 22 deliveries. His century lifted Noakhali Express to a total of 173, although it ultimately fell short of securing victory.
Reflecting on his approach, Isakhil described a simple plan: rotate the strike early, stay positive, and attack only when the ball was in the right area. It was an approach that underlined his growing maturity as a batter and his readiness for consistent opportunities at this level.
