Italy Announces World Cup Squad With Two Sets Brothers

Italy has unveiled its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, with experienced batter Wayne Madsen named as captain. The selection has drawn particular attention for including two sets of brothers, a rare occurrence in international cricket, sparking excitement among fans and analysts alike.

The Manenti brothers – Harry and Benjamin – and the Mosca brothers – Anthony and Justin – have all secured places in the squad. Their inclusion not only adds a familial dynamic but also strengthens team cohesion, offering Italy a unique blend of experience and camaraderie ahead of the global tournament.

South African former international JJ Smuts is also part of the squad. His extensive international experience is expected to bolster Italy’s batting line-up, providing stability and strategic depth.

The decision to appoint Madsen as captain marks a significant leadership change. Previously, the Italian side was led by Australian-born Joe Burns during the European qualifiers. However, Burns was removed from the captaincy late last year and has not been included in the World Cup squad.

Italy earned its World Cup berth in July 2025, finishing second behind the Netherlands in the Europe Regional Qualifiers. John Davison will serve as the head coach, with Kevin O’Brien and Dougie Brown assisting him in coaching duties.

In the tournament, Italy is placed in Group C, facing off against Bangladesh, England, Nepal, and the West Indies. Their campaign is scheduled to begin against Bangladesh on 9 February 2026. However, ongoing discussions over venue arrangements in Bangladesh could alter the group fixtures, meaning Italy must stay prepared for potential scheduling adjustments.
