In Sarishabari Upazila of Jamalpur, a disturbing incident was reported early Thursday morning when the body of a housewife was discovered in a rented residence in the Shimla Bazar area. Police and local residents suspect that the woman may have been strangled with her scarf after encountering intruders who had broken into the house during the previous night.
The deceased has been identified as Lipi Khatun, aged 35, a resident of Shuayqoir area in Sarishabari Upazila, and the wife of RAB personnel Mohr Uddin. Mohr is currently stationed at the RAB-2 office in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. The couple had two sons and a daughter and were living in the rented accommodation in Shimla Bazar with their children.
According to police and local sources, Lipi went to sleep in one of the rooms with her 11-year-old daughter on the previous night. During this time, a gang of burglars cut the room’s grill and entered the house. The body was discovered by the police early Thursday morning after neighbours alerted them, and Lipi was taken to the police station for formal procedures and further investigation.
Officer-in-charge of Sarishabari Police Station, Md. Bachchu Mia, confirmed the incident to the media, stating that the burglars fled with cash and gold ornaments belonging to the deceased. Police have launched a formal investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Lipi’s body has been sent to Jamalpur General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Preparations are ongoing to register a case in the police station related to the incident.
Local residents expressed shock and sorrow over the tragic event, and the news has cast a shadow of grief across the community.
