Following the massive success of the song ’10 e 10′, musician Shibu is now planning to do something new in the music industry. In a recent interview, he spoke about the story of going viral, his personal transformation, and his future plans regarding music. Although the song was released in April, it spread like wildfire on social media centering on the date of 10 October. Shibu realised his popularity was rising whilst returning from university by bus after Pakistani actress Hania Aamir shared the song. Upon reaching home, he saw a flood of follow requests on his Instagram. However, behind this success lies a tragic history of his battle with 114 kgs of weight, which inspired him to write this song of self-confidence. Having lost weight, he now feels much more comfortable in this new version of himself.
The statistics of Shibu’s listeners are also quite astonishing. Among his 90,000 followers on Spotify, only 36 per cent are from Bangladesh, while the rest are international. His music is being exceptionally well received, particularly in the United States, Canada, and other South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, and Nepal. Speaking about the creation process of his new song ‘Tauba’, he mentioned that he created its beat in 2024. He arranged the song using samples of the harmonium and guitar parts from Arfin Rumey’s song ‘Sohena Jatona’. After the lyrics ‘Tauba Hay Tauba Baby’ came to his mind, he recorded the song, and it is now also evoking a response among listeners.
Shibu spoke openly about sampling or using parts of old songs. He uses this method to increase the energy of his songs. In the case of the song ‘Tauba’, he feels it falls within fair use because he has added his own originality to it. However, he has some concerns regarding ’10 e 10′, as its sample is very close to the original melody. He clearly stated that he is prepared to resolve the matter if any legal issues arise in the future. Shibu’s next big step is performing with Muza at Arka Fashion Week on 7 December. He is now moving away from the pop genre to work on folk fusion and has already released the song ‘Opekkha’ from his upcoming album.
