Police in Thakurgaon District have arrested a local leader of Jubo Dal after an incident in which a group of individuals allegedly attempted to seize recruitment examination papers during a staff appointment test in Haripur Upazila. Authorities say the disruption created tension at the examination venue and temporarily affected the conduct of the recruitment process.
The examination had been organised for the recruitment of fourth grade employees at Medinisagar Technical and BM College. It was held on Friday at the office of the Upazila Executive Officer in Haripur, where candidates gathered to take part in the selection test under administrative supervision.
According to the complaint filed with police, the situation turned chaotic while the examination was in progress. A group of individuals reportedly arrived at the venue and began creating disturbances. Witnesses said members of the group attempted to forcibly take away answer scripts and other examination related documents from the centre.
The sudden intervention disrupted the orderly conduct of the test and created anxiety among candidates, invigilators, and administrative officials present at the location. Officials at the venue reportedly intervened to prevent the removal of examination materials and later informed the local administration about the incident.
Following the report, police launched an investigation and a case was filed at Haripur Police Station. The complaint names nine individuals as accused, including a senior local political figure. In addition, approximately thirty five to forty unidentified individuals have also been listed as suspects in connection with the disturbance.
As part of the investigation, police carried out an operation on Saturday evening in the Jadurani Bazaar area of Haripur Upazila. During the operation, officers arrested Shariful Islam Sharif, who serves as the office secretary of the local unit of Jubo Dal. Investigators believe he was involved in the attempt to seize the examination papers and disrupt the recruitment process.
Police officials stated that the arrest was made on the basis of information gathered during preliminary inquiries and witness statements. They added that further efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals who were allegedly involved in the incident.
Authorities emphasised that interfering with recruitment examinations is a serious matter, as such actions can undermine transparency and fairness in public appointments.
Administrative officials have indicated that stricter security arrangements may be considered for future recruitment examinations in order to protect the integrity of the process and prevent similar disturbances.
