Jubo Dal Workers Targeted: Five Suspects Taken Into Custody

Police in Cox’s Bazar have arrested five individuals in connection with the attempted assassination of two Jubo Dal activists, following a violent shooting in the city last month. After the attack, the suspects fled and went into hiding in Lama Upazila, Bandarban, disguising themselves as tourists to evade capture.

The arrests were made late on Friday, 19 December, during a coordinated police raid at the Matamuhuri River View Resort in Mirjiri, Lama, Bandarban.

The apprehended suspects are:

• Kamrul Hasan Babu (26)

• Imran Uddin Khoka, alias Arian Khoka (25)

• Abdul Kaiyum (33)

• Md. Sakib (20)

• A 17-year-old minor

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Shamim Uddin, stated that the shooting occurred on 9 December at around 10:30 p.m. on Kalatali Bypass Road, Uttaran Residential Area near the Bus Terminal. Armed men on motorcycles opened fire on Saiful Islam (35) and Mohammad Faruk (34), both Jubo Dal members, leaving them seriously injured.

Following the attack, the perpetrators fled Cox’s Bazar and took refuge in Lama, Bandarban. Posing as tourists, they remained at a local resort until police, acting on confidential intelligence, successfully apprehended them during a targeted operation.

The OC added that preliminary interrogation of the suspects has revealed crucial information linking them directly to the shooting. Legal proceedings are underway, with charges including use of firearms and attempted murder. Authorities are also investigating to identify any additional conspirators.

The two injured Jubo Dal activists are currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where they are reported to be stable. Police emphasised their determination to hold all responsible parties accountable.
