Lack of Transparency Fuels Doubt in Politics: Zillur Rahman

Political analyst and presenter Zillur Rahman has commented that the absence of transparency in politics creates various doubts. He stated that when transparency is missing, people cannot understand who is doing what. In the current context, some incidents have led many to assume that the Awami League is responsible.

He further explained that the situation becomes more apparent when Awami League supporters and leaders campaign in favour of these actions on social media. He shared these views in a video on his YouTube channel.

Zillur highlighted that when a fire occurs at an Awami League office, it sparks various speculations. Some claim the party is authoritarian, but the responsibility for such incidents does not lie with ordinary citizens. Ensuring law and order is the government’s duty, and law enforcement agencies exist for this purpose.

He noted that what seems abnormal under normal circumstances may not appear so in extraordinary situations. During uprisings or wartime, such incidents are often less discussed. However, endangering the lives of children or women is never acceptable. Those involved in killings, arson, and looting during the Liberation War were not granted immunity.

Zillur added that the public reaction in July–August 2024 was understandable, but continuing attacks on homes, offices, or individuals cannot be justified. This indicates that law and order is not effective, law enforcement is failing, or the rule of law is lacking.

In response to Jamaat’s criticism over government neutrality, Zillur stated that although Jamaat speaks strongly, they still have the ability to change their position.
