A long-standing family feud over property culminated in bloodshed in Mymensingh’s Tarakanda upazila, where a forty-five-year-old man was intercepted and fatally stabbed while journeying to seek legal redress. The victim, Akram Mia, was reportedly attacked by his nephew following a bitter confrontation that turned physical on a rural road.
The incident took place in front of Jabbar’s residence in Madhabpur village, situated within the Rampur union. According to local law enforcement, Akram Mia, a resident of Nagua village in the neighbouring Bishka union and the son of Osman Gani, was travelling by motorcycle towards Mymensingh city to initiate a formal lawsuit against his relatives. However, his journey was abruptly cut short when his nephew, Alamin, accompanied by a group of associates, blocked his path.
Tarakanda police sources and local residents revealed that a toxic dispute over ancestral land had strained relations between the uncle and nephew for a considerable period. Local mediation attempts and community arbitration sessions had been arranged multiple times over the years, yet a lasting settlement remained elusive. Frustrated by the persistent deadlock, Akram had resolved to pursue formal intervention through the judicial system—a move that seemingly provoked the violent ambush.
When the two parties confronted each other on the road, a heated argument rapidly escalated into physical violence. Police accounts suggest that Akram, who was carrying a hammer, struck Alamin during the melee. In a swift and lethal response, Alamin drew a knife from his waistband and plunged it into Akram’s chest. The severity of the wound meant that Akram succumbed to his injuries at the scene before any emergency medical assistance could arrive.
Alarmed by the commotion, local residents discovered the body and alerted the authorities. Officers from the Tarakanda Police Station arrived shortly afterwards, secured the scene, and recovered the body. It was subsequently transported to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact medical cause of death.
Md. Abdur Rashid, the Officer-in-Charge of Tarakanda Police Station, confirmed the details of the homicide and stated that a rigorous investigation has commenced. Police units have deployed multiple teams to conduct raids across the area to apprehend Alamin and his accomplices, who fled immediately after the attack. The process of lodging a formal murder case is currently being finalised by the deceased’s immediate family.
