A tragic road accident in Chattogram’s Karnaphuli Upazila claimed the life of lawyer Kausar Hossain Samrat, aged 35, on Thursday night. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 pm in the Borouthan Dakpara area while Mr Samrat was returning home on his motorcycle from Chattari Chaumuhani market in Daulatpur.
According to the deceased’s family, Kausar Hossain Samrat was the son of Ruhul Amin, a retired teacher of Daulatpur Multilateral High School. Although his ancestral home is in Shariatpur district, he had lived in Daulatpur, Karnaphuli, with his family since childhood. He is survived by his wife and two young daughters.
Police and local residents reported that an unidentified truck, travelling on the wrong side of the road, collided forcefully with Mr Samrat’s motorcycle. He was thrown from the vehicle and suffered severe injuries. Bystanders quickly rushed him to a private hospital in Chattogram, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
His funeral took place following the Jumu’ah prayers, and he was laid to rest in Karnaphuli Upazila. Officials from the local administration and police inspected the scene of the accident, and efforts to trace the truck and its driver are ongoing.
Community members, neighbours, and family mourned the loss, while the local Bar Association issued a statement expressing condolences and calling for an urgent investigation.
