Looted Firearms Recovered from Drug Trader’s Den in Chattogram

Detectives in Chattogram have recovered two foreign-made pistols that were looted from a police station during nationwide unrest in August 2024. The weapons were seized during a raid on a drug den in the city’s Khulshi area, following a violent confrontation that left seven police officers injured.

Inspector Ancharul Karim of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) North Detective Division confirmed the seizure on Sunday evening.

Raid on Slum Hideout Yields Stolen Arms

Acting on intelligence gathered from arrested suspects, detective units conducted a targeted operation on Sunday afternoon in the Ambagan slum area, situated under Khulshi Police Station.

During the search of a designated drug den, officers recovered two Brazilian-made Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistols. Police verification confirmed that both firearms were part of the armory looted from Double Mooring Police Station on 5th August 2024, amid widespread lawlessness across the country.

The recovery follows a violent clash late on Saturday night in the Jharnapara area of Double Mooring. A police team had dispatched units to arrest a notorious local drug trader, identified as Alamgir. The operation turned hostile when a local juvenile gang ambushed the law enforcement team to protect the suspect.

Violent Ambush Injures Seven Police Officers

During the Saturday night raid, gang members launched a sudden assault using sharp weapons and heavy brickbats. A Sub-Inspector sustained knife wounds, while six other police personnel suffered blunt-force injuries from flying stones thrown by the crowd.

In response to the bloody confrontation, CMP deployed additional personnel to execute a sweeping joint operation across Jharnapara and the adjoining Ambagan slum in Khulshi.

The targeted drive resulted in the arrest of Alamgir alongside two of his close associates. Subsequent interrogations revealed that the illicit arms looted from the police station had remained in Alamgir’s possession ever since the 2024 uprising, serving to protect his narcotics syndicate.

Police confirmed that legal proceedings regarding the assault on police officers and illegal possession of looted firearms are currently under way at the relevant police stations. Operations continue across the metropolitan area to trace other missing arms and ammunition taken during the 2024 political upheaval.
