Lorry Crashes into Shop After Losing Control, Shopkeeper Dies

A tragic accident in Madaripur claimed the life of a shopkeeper on Wednesday afternoon, after a lorry lost control and collided with his shop. Two others were injured in the incident.

The accident occurred around 1:00 pm at the Samaddar Bridge area on the Dhaka–Barisal highway in Madaripur Sadar Upazila. The deceased, Elias Sardar, 40, son of Mannat Sardar from Nayakandi Bajitpur village, died instantly when the lorry struck his shop.

Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry, which was travelling towards Barisal, attempted to give way to a passenger bus approaching from the opposite direction. In the process, the driver lost control, and the vehicle ploughed into Elias’s shop, completely destroying it.

Two others were injured in the collision: Laboni Sardar, Elias’s 12-year-old daughter, and a customer, Shawkat Sardar, 35. Both were rescued by locals and rushed to the Madaripur 250-bed District Hospital for medical treatment.

Sub-Inspector Motiar Rahman of the Mastafapur Highway Police Station confirmed the details, stating, “One person was killed and two others injured when the lorry crashed into the shop. The injured are receiving treatment at the hospital, and the lorry has been seized.”
