Major Hafiz Outlines BNP’s Future Cabinet

Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikram), a member of the Standing Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the victor from Bhola-3 constituency, has revealed that the party’s forthcoming cabinet will be composed of a balanced mix of seasoned leaders and new faces.

Speaking at a discussion session held at the Raowa Club on Monday, commemorating the 42nd death anniversary of the chief commander of the Liberation War, General (Retd.) M.A.G. Osmani, Major Hafiz emphasised that appointments will be made on the basis of integrity, public trust, and commitment to the nation’s democratic values.

He stated, “Those who have actively participated in movements against authoritarian or fascist governance will be the primary candidates for ministerial positions. Individuals with no history of corruption, who enjoy the confidence of the people, will be entrusted with responsibilities. Our cabinet will therefore represent a judicious combination of experience and new energy.”

Reflecting on the recent general elections held on 12 February, Major Hafiz described them as “the most transparent in the country’s history,” crediting the citizenry for ensuring the process. He further expressed gratitude to the military for their support in facilitating a fair and orderly election, acknowledging that such an outcome would have been impossible without their assistance during challenging times.

Looking ahead, Major Hafiz affirmed that BNP, as part of the 11-party alliance, intends to play a proactive and robust role in parliament. “As the principal opposition, we will ensure effective oversight of government activities and safeguard democratic practices. Any attempts to derail the country from its rightful course will be met with united resistance,” he asserted.
